another new guy
Hi all another new guy here..Just purchased a 2001 club car that was a golf course traid in.came with no batteries and no charger.I spent a week going over this web site learning what i needed to do to get this pile going and went shopping lol.Went out and baught new batteries a 3 prong 48 volt club car charger, set of 4 guage batt wires.I then cleaned and scraped battery boxes and cleaned wire connections checked all wireing replaced any iffy wire connectors installed batteries and cabels and yahoo it works.not wanting to hurt my new batteries i put the charger on and nothin.I have read posts on charger problems and i have a obc,,,but heres my question... if the obc tells the charger when to turn on and off at what voltage does it tell it to do it??? new batteries are at 51 volts. Could the obc say ,dont turn on charger and if thats the case how low would the batteries need to be for it to say ok turn on???i dont have access to another obc type cart to check the charger but will find one befor i even consider buying a new obc. Any advice i could get would realy help..ps great site

Re: another new guy
batteries came off the shelf with a charg of 51 volts. never been on charger..date on batteries 6-09 like they were made a week ago.put them in and tested with voltmeter and bingo 51 volts..will the charger kick on with 51 volts in the batteries????? ran the cart for at least 1 hr with 2 guys in it to wear the batteries batts down, got it to 50.2 and charger still dident run. what im trying to find out is the voltage required to get the obc to tell the charger to start

Re: another new guy
Welcome to BGW its!
Even with 51v, the charger should kick on, charge for a bit, and shut off. I may be jumping the gun... but your OBC would be prime suspect to be bad! (but check the fuses first!) |

Re: another new guy
oh yeah... @ 48.6v is where the OBC won't kick on the charger!
(anybody can correct me if I.m off .2 or .3v +!) |

Re: another new guy
For 48 Volt OBC the charger will come on at anything above 36 Volts or so the 96
Manual says. |
