Brake Drum Discard Size
Can anyone tell me what the maximum inner diameter of the rear brake drum for a 1993 Club Car DS can be before it has to get thrown away.

These can be turned at your local brake shop to help in truing. If the local shop says it is too thin to be milled ...etc. |

Re: Brake Drum Discard Size
I looked in the Club Car Service manual late last night in the brake section...it gives no spec. for discard size.

Re: Brake Drum Discard Size
I dont know of any standard for golf cart drums but if we had to turn a auto drum more than 40 thousants it was trashed? Some brands of carts have fairly thick BUT?? If in doubt trash it rather than take a chance on a split drum. I have had this happen to me before and its not fun to loose control of brakes and steering??? Suddenly you are on a ice sheet and have lost all control. A Club Car FACTORY brake drum costs about $44.00 for a 1992-1999 ISNT YOUR LIFE OR SOME ONE ELSE WITH YOU WORTH THAT MUCH?

Re: Brake Drum Discard Size
Were'nt old car hubs stamped with a max. ID???
The chances are very good that those drums have never been turned. They may have never been serviced or shoes replaced. Golf cart brakes in normal use don't wear out fast. My '99 workhorse has never been touched. I've adjusted the cables. I would purchase the shoes, install them and see if the shoes need adjusting in for the hub to fit. If they need adjusting, I would keep the hubs and use them. If they don't need adjusting, they are too big....But that is me. I don't have children or hiers??. If they were obviously grooved, I would toss them. I'm not trying to start an argument about safety. Be safe. do what's right. Now, anything you hear on this forum could be hazardous in the state iof california and could cause cancer, we cannot be responsible for loss, damage or injury resulting in using any of this advice..... |
