99 Club Car 48v won't move after sitting

Hi all. I have a 99 Club Car 48 volt that runs fine, but after it sits for a few days it will just inch forward and quit, and then after a while, it will decide to run fine again. Batteries are fully charged, and I have cleaned all the battery lugs, all conections are tight. This cart sat for about 1 year with little use before I bought it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say the batteries are charged is that just from the charger cycling or have you checked the voltage with a meter? If you haven't already done so, please check the voltage and get a hydrometer to check the status of the batteries and post the findings.

Also what type of system is the electronics?

I haven't checked the batteries with any instruments, however I have driven the cart 10-20 miles at aprox 10-12 mph and the batteries were still good. The headlights & taillights burn bright, so I am assuming they are in good enough condition to make it run good. I just drove it & it runs fine...now. I am new to this, so don't know much about the electrical system. It has a forward,neutral, reverse switch under the seat (sometimes the reverse buzzer works, and sometimes it doesn't. If I move the middle contact swich a little, the buzzer sounds). The cart has 1 solinoid next to the controller. When it is in its tempermental mood, I can hear a click when I press the pedal, but the cart will only move a couple of inches. It's the same in forward or reverse.

It sounds like you may have to check and clean all of the connections on the forward/reverse switch since it was sitting for so long. I would also check the batteries, it sounds like they are doing okay, but if you check them you can make sure what kind of state they are in. Do you know the age of the batteries.

Also, it sounds like you have a solid state system which means it is a perfect cart for some upgrades!!!

The batteries are Trojan (K3), which I think means 12/2003. They seem to work just fine, but are towards the backside of their lifespan (kinda like their owner)
I am trying to upgrade to an 07 Precedent Villager4, but haven't made the deal yet. I want to sell the 1999 to finance the 07, but want the gremlin fixed first. Don't want to sell unless I can be sure it's ok for the new owner. Is there a recommended way to clean the switch? I tried some electronic cleaner the other day but still have the problem. Thanks for your help.

also...just because the solenoid is clicking, that doesnt mean its making its cross connection. When it gets tempermental, you may want to try jumping across the two large terminals of the solenoid and see if that causes some activity. I dont know how much time you have when its acting up, but one idea would be to jack up rear axle, push on gas pedal and then try to jump across solenoid and see if that does anything. just another idea

ok guys...here's the update. I drove the cart alot today and it ran great. Put it back in the garage & plugged in the charger. Went back out several hours later to see if it would run. Turned on the key and...same old problem. OK, so lets try cleaning the terminals on the f/r switch. First, better unplug the charger, but wait, the problem goes away when the charger is disconnected. The problem wasn't the cart at all, it was me being lazy and not unplugging the charger for my 2' test in the garage. In conclusion, I'm glad I changed careers from brain surgeon to cart driver. Thanks for your help.

Im happy and surprised at you honestyThats greatsometimes its the simplest things that get overlooked. Not to long ago I was looking for help as to why there was no power to my brake lights on a Precedent, only to find out I had to turn the key on. This was after a complete light kit install.

Being honest has always worked for me, but it's sometimes embarassing. I sold the cart today and am still trying to make the deal on the Precedent. Hope it works out. Anyway, Thanks to all for helping me with my problem.
