Default 95 CC sporadic stops and starts

Hi,
I am new here and with Club Car (basic 1995, 48 volt)- or any cart for that matter. I have had it for a couple years just driving around campground.

I put new batteries in and a new onboard computer. It runs good - not the fastest on the block, but it runs.

The problem is sometimes it will just stop. I push the pedal and nothing - a slight jerk and click(I imagine that is the coil). I push pedal 3-4 times maybe switch from reverse to forward or vice versa a couple times and it begins working fine again.
Sometimes I back out of the driveway and when I put it in foward it doesn't go right away - till I push and release pedal 3-4-5 times and maybe go forward, reverse, foward, reverse then it goes and may run great for a day or two...

The Club Car stays outside most of the time - could it be dampness?(I don't think so though). Seems sorta like a loose connection but I have checked inside and out and do not see anything that seems loose. Someone told me check the potentiameter under pedal - I haven't taken it apart yet.

I was wondering any suggestions??
Thanks for any help - this is a great site - I have been wandering around for days.

John

Sounds like you will need to check and clean up the forward/reverse switch and the microswitches there as well.

Thanks for the response.

Well I had sprayed it with a good terminal cleaner. But I will probably pull it and give a good check and cleaning.

remember on an old car when the starter wouldn't work but you'd hear a loud click. Turning the key 4 or 5 times finally got it to work..problem was a bad solenoid?? well you stated you feel a slight jerk and click. You may have a bad solenoid not handling the amp load anymore. If theres a way, try jumping across the large terminals of the solenoid while the cart is acting up...or just clip a voltmeter on the "out" side of the solenoid and monitor the voltage. If it read way low when cart is acting up...chances are the solenoid is shot(if the voltage on the "in" battery side is good)

Thx Oxfordlawn, I will try to wire something to my solenoid and monitor.
