Default 1992 Club Car 36volt

Can anyone help! I'm a Honda Mini Trial and MGB lover, who just got a '92 36 volt Club Car in great shape: it's been stored for years. However, after cleaning the electrical connections (except for the V-glide) and checking the wiring diagram (which is a bit confusing given there is no "number to color" legend), it still doesn't move in forward or reverse. It ran fine before it was garaged a decade ago. It's now got new batteries and connector cables. There is power to the FNR switch in both forward and reverse, but it still won't run. I wonder if the solenoid or the microswitch may have gone bad, but don't know how to check either. (You'd think with all the British cars I've owned through the years, I'd be used to wiring issues - after all Lucas did invent the intermitent wipers!) I wonder also if I need to clean all the v-glide connections, but i can't imagine that none of them work. Anyone got any ideas; my 10 year old son is getting antsy!

check to see if you have voltage at the large terminasl on solenoid with the f/r in each position. The reverse is usually wired up to get 18V and forward 36V. if so--great. next the solenoid activates as follows : 36V sent thru key, out to micro on f/r switch, then to a microswitch in the Vglide and then to the solenoid. Other side of solenoid is always grounded, so the power activates the solenoid. Check the microswitches and check for voltage at eeach of the points and see where problem. This is just a start!

I cant see the VGlide being a problem since it was parked running, but you can pop the cover off and have a look-see to check the contacts.

Thanks for the info. It's so late I'll tackle this tomorrow evening. One question: what if there's no voltage registering at the solenoid? Does that mean the microswitch on the F/R switch is bad or what? I only messed with it briefly tonight, but I'm pretty sure that the f/r switch looked good (ie: lit up the test light), but the solenoid showed no power.

which voltage do you mean at solenoid---activationn voltage for solenoid or the main fat battery cables voltage. If the activation circuit voltage is not there, check key switch, and the 2 microswitches.
As far as the large cables at solenoid. It depends which position the f/r is in. But in "F" you will have 36 on one large stud....and in "R" you will have either 18 or 36 on the other stud, it reverses the direction. Again, the voltage in reverse depends on how the cart is wired up. Stock is 1/2 voltage but many people have changed that on their own.

Hey Oxfordlawn - it's 'frustrated frank' from Lookout Mountain here. I've checked the voltage at the solenoid and it's 36v on one post when it's in F and 18v on the other post when it's in R. However, there is no voltage at all at the key switch. When I traced the red and blue wires back, i found the blue wire connects to the bottom of the microswitch on the F/R switch and the red wire coupled with a larger white wire on the back of the charger input. It (the charger input) doesn't look like it's been messed with, but the other end of the white wire is attached to the #1 battery negative post; hence there is no power. That seems strange that it's not a constantly hot wire, doesn't it? What think yee, O wise one? Do I have a wiring issue or do i just not understand electric golf carts?

Yes there should be a constant hot Positive wire at the key switch. When you close the key switch the power should go to the F&R micro-switches

If there's no power to the key switch, what's my next step? Is the red power wire hooked up to the wrong connection on the back of the charger input? It's hooked up to the same connection as the larger white wire that goes to the #1 battery on the negative post. That's what the wiring diagram that's posted on the web looks like. Does that sound wrong to you like it does to me? On the back of the charger input, there are only two connections: 1) big red wire that's got 36v to it and comes from the fuse connector, and 2) the large white wire connected to the negative post on battery #1.

Can you post the diagram you are working from here? I will take a look at it... I could be wrong on the key polarity for that yr / model

OK that red wire that feeds power up to the key switch on my cart is attatched to the bottom of the f/r switch where the main battery positive red large cable attatches to the f/r switch. The little red wire runs up to the key switch, and then comes back thru a little blue wire which goes to the microswitch on the f/r switch.

see the big red and green wires on the bottom of the switch. You key power feed red wire can be hooked on the same terminal as that big red wire on the left bottom.

I did just realize I posted something wrong for you in the beginning though. The ground for the solenoid as you will see in the picture goes from the back of the charge receptacle, thru the microswitch in the VGlide and then to the solenoid. The power for the solenoid runs as I explained above with the picture--from big red wire on bottom f/r switch to key back to f/r microswitch then to solenoid. do you follow???
