Default Corroded Battery Cable...How???

I have a 2006 DS and today after driving it about 50 yards, it stopped.

I flipped open the seat and found one of the battery cables corroded completely thru and not attached to the terminal.

How could this happen?

I can think of three things that happened within the last month that may or may not have been contributory.

1) I left the lights on when I charged it overnite (when charging).

2) I've left the key in the "ON" switch on occasion overnite (when charging).

3) One day, when refilling the batteries with distilled water, I dropped the bottled water and the tops of the bateries were soaked...I was in a hurry and didn't wipe them dry.

Could ANY of these mishaps have caused that one cable to corrode?

Probably a loose connection.

They shouldn't corrode that fast. The water could have been a contributing factor. Fix it and use some preventative coating.

Essentially anything that keeps the connection air tight will prohibit corrosion from forming I have used spray lube, vasaline, spray paint, liquid rubber, and finally an electrical terminal protectant from any automotive store

If the first time you noticed the wire was when it was corroded in half,
I would suggest opening the seat a little more often and brushing up on the carts preventitive maintenance schedule and procedure.
That should have been caught and repaired/replaced way before it broke.
Keep in mind corroded wires and loose connections cause amp resistance which lead to heat build up which lead to faster corosion but worse can lead to melted battery posts and at @ $100.00 a pop that aint fun.
