97 Powerdrive+ issues
Good Morning all,
I've recently acquired an 97 Club Car 48V Regen1 Powerdrive+ (all things that I learned from this site). The previous owner used it for parts. I've replaced all of the missing wiring and parts and got it hooked up to the charger. The charger wouldn't kick on so I checked the battery voltage. It was only 32V so I bypassed the relay in the charger and charged it up to 53V. I then reconnected the relay and plugged it back in. It still won't kick on. I also can't get the wheels to turn while on blocks. I need to check if the black cable is going through the OBC in the right direction (I never would have guessed that one). The solenoid clicks when I turn the key and the buzzer sounds when I set in to reverse, but no wheels turning. I have a wiring diagram that helped me get all of the wires to the right places, but a schematic would help me check all of my connections. This is my current father-son project and I'm determined to have a completed product that we can enjoy together on our next camping trip in 4 weeks. I have the shop manual and supplemental manual on their way, but I'm at a stand still until then. Help! |

Re: 97 Powerdrive+ issues
You gotta wonder why the previous owner used it for parts only? Check the motor for unwanted continuity between any A and any S(F) posts. Continuity would indicate an internal motor short. THen if the solenoid is clicking and you are getting power-up to the controller? Check the MCOR throttle indicator per your manual

Re: 97 Powerdrive+ issues
I checked the motor for proper continuity and found over 2Meg between A1 and A2. I also found that the solenoid between the batteries and the controller isn't engaging when the accelerator is pressed. The one between the controller and the motor engages when the key is turned. I hot wired the other one to see if it was capable of working and it does. The controller isn't telling it to turn on. It's beginning to sound like I have a bad OBC, a bad motor and a bad controller. Is there a worthwhile rebuild option available that would cost less than all of these individual items?

Re: 97 Powerdrive+ issues
Yes you could buy a cart that is working !
But what would you be saying to your Son ! You HAVE to finish the project regardless of cost, Never give up. If you have a local dealer you can probably get some used certifed parts there . Start with the least expensive first the OBC, then Used Controller then Motor. |
