Default 1996 charging problems

Hi

I also just bought a 1996 A9646-xxx club car electric. Battery's are 2 years old and the wiring looks its age. Cleaned all terminals on the battery's, checked the water levels. Filled the tires and drove it an 1/8 of a mile home. Battery's read 47.8 volts across the pack.
The cart has been stored outside and hasn't been charged since last year.

# Problems:
Red light on the dash is on constantly.
Charger wont start and charge. Tried a second charger, same thing. Put a jumper in and connected the gray wire to the neg post and the charger "clicks" but the meter stays at "Zero". At times when the charger is connected the Red Light will go out for 30 sec.

Any help appreciated
Jim

P.S. The Red Light goes out if I drive it, but comes back on after the cart sets a while.

Maybe time to charge batteries individually?

Hi
Well the battle continues, today I installed new wheel bearings in both front wheels. And cleaned up and greased the steering ball joints.

But back to the charging problem.
The red light stays on unless the cart is being used then it goes out until its stopped for a while (1 to 3 min). Voltage over the battery pack has been 47-48 volts. Today I drove it around until the voltage dropped to 45. Then plugged in the charger with a jumper to the gray wire from the neg post and the charger started a charge at 18 on the gauge.

How long will it take for the batteries to charge and will I need to monitor the charger all night???

Thanks
Jim
