anybody ever replaced a back up buzzer

anybody ever replaced a back up buzzer with some other bell or something that doesn't buzz? if so, what and where'd ya get it?

I'm working on an LED for mine.

I disconnected the buzzer entirely. The problem is that you will eventually forget that you left it parked in reverse, and hop in, and back up in to something or someone, or at the very least scare yourself. That's why I opted for an LED.

I haven't finished it yet, but when I do, I'll post pictures of how I did it in detail. If it works correctly, it'll have cost me about $8 in parts from Radio Shack and about 1 hour of time. I'm terrible with electronics, so this is a majorly rookie project. Basically its just a few resistors and an LED wired to the leads that formerly went to the buzzer.

No clue if you'd be interested in making one for yourself, but I'll post the pictures if it works in case you or someone else wants to do so.

I used a workhorse on a construction site. OSHA required 70 or 80 db backup alarm so I bought an alarm for a Kawasaki Mule but, never got around to installing it and the the bottoom fell out of the construction market so...... it sets in a box . No clue if anyone is interested in this hack job, but here is what I did...

It cost me a couple of bucks in parts at radio shack. I used a blue LED because they had the highest voltage and I figured that would make it easier to find a resistor for. I used an online resistor calculator to find the resistor that I needed. I couldn't find that resistor, so I used two in a series that totaled the value that the calculator gave me.

2 X 1k Ohm 1watt 5% resistors. part number 271-153 = less than $2
1 X 5mm Blue LED, 5volt, 30mA. part number 276-0311= less than $3
1 small project board = less than $2

The board isn't necessary, but it helps keep everything in place. I soldered everything together, wired it to the leads that formerly went to the buzzer (orange positive, and white negative), and put the led on a small piece of carbon fiber with a hole drilled in it. Its ghetto, but it works fine and lets me know when I'm in reverse. If you try this and have problems getting the LED to stay lit, try reversing the leads on the LED. LED's have to have the correct polarity.

Total time it took me, honestly, more than I'd like to admit, but I'd say around 2 and a half hours by the time I messed around with everything, chased my dog a few times, etc.
