Default Do You Have Insurance on your Cart?

I just got back from the beach with my buggy. I was paranoid all weekend about it getting stolen from our beach house, whenever we would leave it. I kept it chained to a column when we were gone.

That got me thinking about all the money and time I've put into this thing, and what would happen if it were stollen, or totalled in a wreck while I was towing it, etc.

Do people insure these things? If so, how much is the avg. annual premium?

Are you guys sure it's included in your HO policy?

My HO policy is with Travelers and I assumed the cart would be covered under it, but my agent said that if the cart is in my garage or on my property it is covered, but once it is removed, it's no longer covered.

He said it's insured just like a motorcycle or ATV. He said it's a seperate policy.

My agent is working up a price right now. He said he thought it was around $100 a year.

Mine is included in my Homeowners Policy at no additional cost. I'm with AAA and live in a GC community where the insurance companies are familiar with carts. My neighbor has Allstate and his cart is on his homeowner's policy as well.

Be careful about depending on a Homeowner's policy covering damage (theft) etc. to your cart. "Property NOT COVERED under Coverage C (personal property). Motorized land vehicles, including any land vehicle powered or assisted by a motor or an engine.----Limited coverage is afforded for vehicles used solely for the service of the insured premises.(such as riding lawn mowers.) Read your policy section for Personal Property Coverage. You MAY have some coverage for Liability (Section 11) under the policy depending on use. If it is licensed for street use you better read carefully!! These are standard provisions so check it out. The above wording is from my ALLSTATE HO policy.

Good points.
Any vehicle that is "state licensed for street use" requires additional insurance like a car. Mine is area specific and not licensed out side of the community I live in.
