Default 36 volt to 48 volt on a resistor cart questions...

I really did search quite a bit, but it was tough to just find a clear cut answer with all the info here, so I'm hoping a bored person will show me pity and help me out.

I have a 1999 Club Car, resistor Cart, 36 volt. Its somewhat of a beater cart just to mess around with. Is there any simple cheap way to upgrade to 48 volt? The charger isn't an issue as I need to buy on anyhow. There are really only a few major parts to the system, the f/r switch, selonoid, batteries, resistors, wiper thingy (technical term), mtor etc... what all would have to be replaced in order to run two more 6 volt batteries?

Thanks in advance, and I know much of the info is here if you search around enough, but it seems every time I find a helpful sounding thread, there ends up being something that makes it different than my setup.

Batteries- You are going to need to add 12 more volts. So either go with 6 8 volts or add two 6 volts to your current set up. The easiest thing to do would be to buy new 8 volts. You could even use a deep cycle marine 12 volt in the bag carring area until you could afford new 8 volts.

Solenoid- You need to up grade to a 48 volt solenoid.

I know I typed this up yesterday for someone else so your gonna get the short version I have converted a few of these. You can as KDAWG said put extra batts and a solenoid in em and run. But you better run WOT or nothing. If you try to run for extended slow speeds it WILL burn up something. The correct way si to convert to solid state speed control. You will need the following:
A matched set of 48v batteries ( all 6 or 8v )
A 48 400+ amp controller
A potentiometer match to the controller and a way to mount it.
4 ga battery cables thu out
A heavy duty 400amp 48v solenoid
A lester type 48v charger

check out this old conversion ... the cart was older than yours but had thew ezact same system originally.

I ran this set up for a year before I upgraded. I burnt up 2 fwd and rev switches but, I had some chitty wires. Scotty is right. That is the real way to do it. But, if your on a budget my way will get you by. In my opinion if you are going to spend all that big money to convert like Scotty said to do it. You may as well go ahead and go 72 volts. It wont cost but a few hundered bucks more and you will be much much more satisfied.

Yeh, well, more volts is gonna be more speed but I was talking about running the original motor on 48v and a 48v conversion is both cheaper and more everyday compatable ... I think? The 72v does sound like fun, though.

My cart was a 1997 36 volt resistor cart. Just like the diagram above. I spent the following.
2 gauge wires- I aquired a new set for free. It includes all the wires between batteries and all wires to and from controller and motor. I would guess a new set would cost ya around 200 to 300 bucks.
48 volt solenoid-50 bucks
MCOR conversion kit- 250.00 This is the potentiometer for clybcar controller carts. Its a sealed unit.
Controller Alltrax AXE 4855 500 amp- 555.00
6 Exide E-4800 8 volt batteries- 700.00
D&D ES-58 Torque motor 18.7 hp @ 1450 rpm- 600.00

For another 300 bucks I could have went 72 volts. Wish I would have. I would be running around 30 mph and have so much torque it wouldnt be funny.

For 650.00 I could have gotton a 24 to 72 volt Alltrax Axe programmable controller and used it for 48 volt system until I was ready to jump to 72 volts. Thats what I would do if I were you.

Thanks for the info and opinions. I think I'm going to have to just wait it out a little while, enjoy what I have, get the cart cleaned up and whatnot, then pan out where I want to go with it and how much I want to spend. At least now I have some idea of what direction I'm going to head.
