Default elect 96 cc want move solenoid problem?

I was giving a 48v electric 96cc that was bought in 96 and the man passed away in 97. Cart sat in a building until 7/20/09. Batteries bad(6-8v's). Just to get it running, to checked out i put 4/12v in series.I had to jump the solenoid to make it run. I had to this with the old batteries with the charger on.Looking on this site early i read that the solenoid is bad,i bought one from the cc dealer. The one i removed was round #1018070-01 and the new one is sq;#sw8o-1275p 48v made by Allwright. these have difference connectors. I installed it like they told me and i have the same problem.Want run unless you short across the large termenals.Would this be the wrong part are do i need to look for something else. Thanks

Look to a faulty activation circuit. Have you downloaded the wiring diagram for the cart from the stickies?

The solenoid is a big switch like a lightswitch. It turns power on and off at the big terminals when activated by a pos and a neg charge at the small terminals

So run down the smal wires on the solinoid. whatever they go to (micro switch) is probably defective !

thanks for the infomation so for.I will trace the small wires from the solenoid to see where this mico switch is and do whats necessary to correct it. I ran across something else before i got a chance to read the last helpful artical. With the new soleniod on, i can short across the small termanel that is hot when the accellartor is depressed to the large termenal that goes back to the controller and it will run like normal.Any sugestions, Thanks for your help. PS if i go from the other small termenal to the same large termenal it will chadder. Again thanks for the help.
