Cartdude9900,
I would recommend that you upgrade ALL of your 6 gauge cables to 4 gauge. That means not only the battery cables, but the motor cables and any other of the 6 gauge cables carrying 36 volts. |

Re: 1990 golf cart..more torque
Certainly, upgrading the motor to one configured for more torque will help. However, you will need to supply that motor more current than the stock configuration. That's where upgrading the cables helps. Many forum members have stated that just upgrading the cables has provided more torque.

Ok...I guess I'll upgrade the cables before trying the motor. One other question..would 10 inch wheels and 20 inch tires add more torque or not..I saw ur cart has bigger wheels :-).

Re: 1990 golf cart..more torque
You will lose torque if you go with bigger tire, but adding larger wires may bring you back to stock. As for the PB-6 it will not add anything other then better speed control, if you upgrade the controller that is where you will see a performance increase.

Wheel size doesn't make a difference. Tire size does. Adding larger tires will make the cart faster, but will provide less torque. This is because of the larger circumference of the bigger tire. One rotation of the larger tire covers more area than a smaller tire. I still have stock tires and rims on my cart |

You can not give your cart regenerative braking, also the old 5 solenoid and the resistor coil carts that followed are not good candidates for speed & torque upgrades. They build too much heat. And bigger tires will only rob your motor of more power. So if you get the old cart, fix it up so it can run it's best as designed & accept it for what it is or..... be prepared to put some $ into serious upgrades. Like a Controller and more voltage ... Good Luck. |
