Default Need Help!

I purchased an 88 CC DS Electric for next to nothing a while back with plans of restoring/fixing it up. The plans were to get it running, add a rear seat & make it look nice so we could take it to places like Disney's Fort Wilderness & other campgrounds. I've accumulated a few parts (new wheels, a couple of Precedent seat backs, new DS body, etc.). I started to dig into it last weekend and ran across a few things with it. This cart was sitting in somebody's back yard when I bought it. It had been sitting for years. It has 6 Trojan batteries with a date code of "Aug 00". They are all bone dry. I doubt they would hold a charge, but I haven't tried yet. Before I go out & buy 6 new batteries & new cables, I have a question. Should I fill these batteries with distilled water & see if they hold any kind of charge to see if the other parts (solenoids, motor, etc.) are still good?

Say if it's worst case scenario & all the parts are bad (solenoids, motor, etc.), would I be better off just upgrading this cart to newer style electronics, maybe even upgrade to 48V or should I just go out & buy a good running 2000.5 or newer CC DS with fresh batteries?

If I do go with a newer cart, I could always mothball this old one for a rainy day project down the road, like maybe a 72V 4x4 conversion...

Any & all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

hey scotty,
correct me if i am wrong. But you can use a stock 36v motor and run a 48v controller too it right?

I mean if he is looking to go ahead and buy batteries? Just get 48v worth of batteries, upgrade cables, solenoid and controller?

I wish that I had done the full 48V upgrade to my 36V cart. I had just purchased 6 new 6 volts, so I didn't want to spend more money on batteries.SO, I did everything else that I could to upgrade it and get ready

Next time I need batteries, I'm going to finish the cart to 48V.
