Default how do i check to see if i have a bad solenoid?

Hey there everyone, I have this cart, the pedal is good, the batteries are good, the cables are good, BUT when I want to go it seems like i dont get full speed. i suspect a solenoid might be going out but im not sure, I am not trained in the art of repairing golf carts so please be specific if your advice

So basicly i am asking, how can i check the solenoid, because i suspect that is the problem. Also where might this tricky little solenoid be located in the cart.

Thank You

Let's start with the serial number of the cart! What configuration is in the cart?

36volt, 48volt, etc. Please provide as much information as possible!

It is a Club Car, Serial #QP0399-227597, it is 48 volt, and it is a 2000 something, oddly enough i dont know the exact year though. i hope that is enough, if not let me know and i will find out.

Looking at the 'sticky' thread that is listed at the top of the Club Car forum, I found this:

"The first letter denotes the MODEL, second set of digits is the year and the last set is the week of production. The actual serial number is just a production sequence and doesn't mean anything to us."

Perhaps you have some numbers transposed. I would assume that your cart is a Precedent IQ model, manufactured in 03/99, and that it is indeed 48V. Please check your numbers again.

Based on that, look at this electrical diagram to see if it matches your cart:

You can find a better picture of the diagram right in the 'sticky' thread for electrical diagrams. Take a good look at it and see if it matches your cart.

Well, the solenoid should have 2 large terminals that transfer the 48V thru it. The smaller terminals are what activate the large terminals. One small terminal will be wired positive and the other wired negative. You can determine which is which by just looking at what feeds to each terminal.

You should be able to measure voltage easily enough. However, your issue doesn't sound like it is the main solenoid (contactor). Usually the contactor either works, or it doesn't. Sometimes they jam open or shut, but that's about it.

It sounds like it may be in the 'multi-step potentiometer' or the perhaps one of the micro switches mounted to the F/R switch.

Need more info:

1.When did this problem start to occur?

2.Have you done a voltage check of each battery?

3. The entire battery pack?

4. Post voltages.

If the problem started after the brakes were fixed? I would start there. First off, It sounds like you have an 2003 IQ DS cart that has dragging brakes. With the cart in neutral and the tow/run switch in tow, can you push the cart easily on flat ground? Also check the air in the tires. Low air pressure is like dragging an anchor behind an electric cart. If cart will not push easy, check tires then brakes.
Just an idea....
