Converting from 4-12V to 6-8V Batteries

When I buy new batteries, can I convert my 2006 CC DS to six 8 volt batteries? It now has four 12 volts. Would it require anything other than additional wiring for the two additional batteries or would the OBC be confused? From what Scottyb and others have said, you seem to get more run time on the 6 battery configuration.

did you buy it used with this setup the 4 12v's?

yes 6 8vs will def. give you better run time. yes just the extra wiring is all you should need.

the obc and such just looks at the total voltage, not how that volatge is made :)

Yes, it is standard with the 4 12V. I think that is the way the newer Precedents are, too. Thanks for your info.

I hear club car is going back to 6-8 volts in those carts.

I think you would have to modify the battery tray for the 8v's.

Hi roundtuit60, I was thinking of doing the same to My 05 Precedent.....the local Club Car dealer here in Australia said that I would have to swap out the OBC and controller and battery tray totalling $4000-$5000 Aust......just plain not worth considering.....IF it is TRUE!

Like others I can't understand how 48v from 8v batts being different than 48v from 12v batts....unless the amperes are the problem!

Someone more knowledgable may have a look soon. I hope anyway....I wanna know

I have to agree with galloway. It is the same with a charger; it does not count the batteries. It just reads the voltage.

48Vdc is 48Vdc. Yes you would get more range. Golf courses reporting battery life much shorter when using 4-12Vdc also.
You would need to change-out battery tray or modify it. Add a couple of more "battery to battery" cables and, unless you have accessories running off 1 of the 4-12V, that's it. If you do have accessories running off 1 battery, you will need to add a voltage reducer or converter. I would suggest a 48Vdc to 12Vdc converter to balance out load across all 6 batteries. That's it.

I’m not so sure that you even have to change out the battery tray. Does any one know the spec's or the group size are at least the width & length of the 12 volt Trojan Battery.

Please post those #'s.
