Wiring Question
Had all batteries replaced and have not been happy with performance. Speed isn't what I expected and they don't keep a strong charge long. Struggles climbing small hills too.
Looked at wiring diagram on this site and see that the red wire from the charger recepticle is connected onto first battery where red wire comes from solenoid. On my cart the red wire from the charger recepticle is connected to the red wire on the solenoid. Black wire from charger recepticle is connected like the diagram. By the way I've been through about 15 full cycle charges, checked all connections, new wiring on all batteries, water levels are good. Charges seem to take longer than I would expect. Any ideas. Friend mentioned he would suspect the speed controller, if it is the speed controller, how can I test it? |

Re: Wiring Question
Did you rewire the same way it was wired before?
Where did you get your batteries? What brand? |

Re: Wiring Question
I did not replace the batteries. Have a friend who sells batteries and he did the replace for me at his shop. These are interstate batteries.
However, the cables are tied all together and don't appear to be recently done. Doesn't really answer your question. |

Re: Wiring Question
There a chance that one cell is bad on your new batteries. Could be a possibility to look at...

Re: Wiring Question
when you say
"Charges seem to take longer than I would expect" What are you expecting. Put the charger on and leave it until it completes , it could take as long as 16 hours. The longer you run the cart the longer it takes to charge. Buy a digital volt meter it a requirement for all sparky owners. |

Re: Wiring Question
When I installed the new batteries, I fully charged them each time and never ran the cart more than 30 minutes. I did this religioiusly for the first 15 charges. Only time I ran the car after installing batteries was to put on and take off the trailer. Otherwise I did as stated for breaking them in.
GMORRISON, didn't realize after break-in period it could still take that long. Hadn't run the cart for 2 weeks and this past weekend it took over 12 hours for the charger to cutoff, but I let it fully charge. Obviously, I wasn't aware of the time it may take. Good info to know. Is there a chance that all the batteries are not charging equally? Should I give it a full charge, then check each battery, or should I actually check each cell? I'm stumped. Guess I just need to take back to dealer and let him give it a good once over. |
