Motor Testing
What are some simple ways to test the motor on an 36v elec? Seems simple enough, I have voltage at the motor but no rotation. I am wondering if my batteries just can't handle the load, or if the motor is bad. I don't have a battery load tester, so I'm looking for alternative methods to determine the root cause. The cart is mid 80's single soleloid and won't move in either direction.

What voltage reading do you get at the motor? If lower than 36 put it on jack stands and cycle the foot pedal very quickly so it won't overrev if the motor kicks in. If the motor then turns everything I would then start with a battery, cable & connections check. If you have voltage above 36 (about 70/75%chg) put it on jack stands and cycle the pedal to see if motor turns over (careful of over rev). Try by hand to see if you could have a brake seized. Those 36v motors run forever & I would almost bet it isn't the motor. Worse case is if motor is bad is to check our sponsors, send the motor in for rebuild (about $200.). These motors are nearly bullet proof. They rarely go bad... It is almost always something else....
 Having said that ...... here is the motor test diagram. be safe! have the cart on jack stands children clear. and do not rev motor with no load as it may blow up as in flying sharp pieces........ before you do this test for continuity ... you should have continuity between A1 & A2 and between S1 and S2 but not between any A and any S .......If this test is good you can bet money the motor is fine ......good luck |

Yep... my bad.
OK, found the brush assembly had been creatively engineered using a nut and bolt to connect the two brush wires and then to the power cable all inside shrink wrap. At any rate, I'll need brushes for: Club Car Elec Motor Part Number 1012653 Model Number 5BC48JB771 You guys have been GREAT! |
