I just bought a 99 48v club car. I have learned alot quick thanks for forums and here is my situation now.

After a full nights charge I went out to test drive and the cart went about 3 mph. Since the cart has been sitting for a long time I decided to break it down and clean it up. The rear brakes were pretty locked up, the rear end was completly dry (inside), the cables and terminals were corroded and something is completly broken off on the front end (pic below).

So I got the brakes working but some how broke the part that holds the parking brake.

Cleaned out and filled the Rear end with 75-90 syn.

Replaced all the cables with 4 gauge and cleaned all terminals.

Have no Idea what to do with front end.

So after doing all this when I read the batteries voltage it is some where between 8.15 and 8.25 but the key was turned all day. When I took it for a test drive it still probably only got up to 6-7 mph. Any Idea why?

My other problem is the front end, whats wrong with it? Is there a way I can fix it with a lift kit? Or am I going to have to fix whatevers wrong with it and then lift it?

This forum has been great and has gotten me this far and I appreciate any further help.

Welcome v... The frame is bent. That cart took a pretty good hit. Does the steering work? From the pics it looks like just the boot is torn. The other part you have circled is a steering stop. The only lift that would replace all the components would be a long travel. You should spend the time to straighten the frame before you lift it.

VDUB--I agree with Dirty-You have got to get that frame straight or you will waste a lot of time and $$ trying to run that cart. It looks as though it has had a hard life. I suggest you pull the body, at least the front end, take off everything attached so you can get some good measurements on how bad the frame is out of whack. It's not easy to straighten that bugger but when stripped down post pics for someone that can advise how to straighten. We tried to straighten a 96 frame and never did get it right. That was prior to my BGW days so I am sure someone here can help. Do the frame 1st.!! Good Luck

well I have a couple bodymen friends with frame machines so that should help. I will get one of them to take a look at it.

Any Ideas on the power issues?

It appears you have some real battery issues. Did you test with meter or hydrometer? If your readings were 8.15 to 8.25 after charging you are only 60 to 70 % charged at best (100% shd. be 8.49+). Compared to how it appears cart may have been treated poor battery mntce. would follow. If Trojan batteries look on Neg pad for letter and number. A (Jan.)is month etc. & number is year of mfg. Old Batts. with bad mntce and they will toast. Sounds like you start here with new batteries. By the way what did they test at before charging? Sorry all you are getting so far here is bad news!! Hang in there.

I think over all I am still ahead since I only spent a $100 on it so bad news sucks but is better then no news.

This morning after charging the batteries they tested out at 52+ volts. and each battery varied but was some where in the 8.7 to 8.8 range. They are labeled D5 so 2005 right? Do you still think they are bad?

When I took it out to test it this morning it was definatly faster maybe 10 mph but still that seems slow to me.

Are there any speed controller adjustments or tests?

10-12 MPH is normal for these carts without any upgrades.
Battery Voltage sounds good also.
Just make sure you wait 30 min after charging to get reading, then drive for 15 min and wait
for 5 min then read again. If Voltage has dropped more as much as .1 then do the charge again. Check water levels do this up to 10 times to see if batteries will come back, if the excessive drop continues the Batteries are shot.

Make sure everything is lubricated and that brakes are not Dragging.
I bought a 99 and both brakes were dragging and rusty , it ran much better after cleaning and adjustment.

If the Batteries are in fact still good , a fast cable upgrade to #4 Welding cables is a fast
and in-expensive upgrade and your Motor will Thank you

I agree-New readings aren't that bad but follow checking as Garry (gmorrison) advises. I note you have already changed to the #4 cables. Keep charging, run down etc. four or five times plus see what that drop is that Garry advises. You might jack up on blocks and do a hand wheel spin on all four to see if you have drag. Be extra careful if you hit the pedal not to over rev while on no load as you might get a flying metal shower. You might as well check and lube wheel bearings while it is up.

Just a thought I have a frame you could have for $100 with all the steering components. That may be easier then fixing yours. If you need anythinge else let me know. I have a crap load of club car parts laying around. I just want to keep the rear end/motor. Im in Beaufort SC.
