DS V-Glide Upgrade Mtr ??
Still troubleshooting my modified 85. Performing voltage checks based on 88 and up V-Glide drawings.
Getting (Fluke Connected to Neg Bat Terminal and these points) Gas pedal pressed Select SW - FWD Bottom Motor Terminal 0 Volts 2nd Up Terminal (Resistors) 38V 3rd Up Terminal (Battery Neg) 0V Top Mtr Terminal 0 Volts (measuring at F&R, no Terminal on Mtr) Select SW - RVS Bottom Motor Terminal 0 Volts 2nd Up Terminal (Resistors) 0V 3rd Up Terminal (Battery Neg) 0V Top Mtr Terminal 19 Volts (measuring at F&R, no Terminal on Mtr) Any ideas... Motor Bad? Anyway to verify F&R Switch is good? Should I attempt to pull the motor and bench test it with direct leads from the battery? |

Re: DS V-Glide Upgrade Mtr ??
I can't read any of the motor terminal markings. Any other way to identify A1 A2, S1 S2?

Armature (A) will usually be on the end. Feild (S) will be on the can. Get your volt meter and do a continuity test to find a match.

Re: DS V-Glide Upgrade Mtr ??
Well... tested.. No go. It appears one of the motor terminals may be broke loose interally. I couldn't get the nut off of it and it started to turn. There is no continuity between A1 and A2. S1 and S2 show continuity.
What's the best option for a replacement motor. A local shop here sells used take off's for around $200. I'm looking for simiple quick, easy, and CHEAP! No frills. I guess I'll work on getting the lighting in working order until I decide what to do about the motor. |

Re: DS V-Glide Upgrade Mtr ??
If it is the A1 or A2 terminal you could replace the brushes, you would have to take apart the motor, but not a hard fix!! That might be the cheapest route.

Re: DS V-Glide Upgrade Mtr ??
Any tricks to pulling the motor. It looks like just a couple bolts (maybe 3) plus the mount. Is there a coupling with set screws or anything?

There are four bolt i believe, 3 on the rear-end side and one on the motor side.
