Question Resistor coils smell Hot

I'm pretty new to this, so this may be stupid question. I recently picked up a 1971 CC caroche. Replaced the batteries, and off I went. Is it normal to smell the resistor coils? they seem to be getting very hot. I understand that that is one of there functions, just seems like they may be getting too hot. I did look up the wiring diagram and changed two wires. It was running twice as fast in reverse than forward. but the smell started after the wire swap. Thanks Steve

Welcome to bgw You are driving an antique so forgive us if we don't know alot about it.... the carts typically run 1/2 power reverse. So sounds like you have it right .... If the cart sat for a long time it may smaell more than normal until it burns some of the extra rust and dust off? They should not smell strong all the time ... that would indicate a heat problem.

Yeah, it sat for about three years. I was hoping the smell may just burn off. Thanks
