86 Club Car suddenly started running Slow
My 86 Club Car all of a sudden started running slow from 1 day to the next. Checked the water level in the batteries (no cells were low) and recharged. (even though it just came off a charge) Didn't help. It really runs slow off the pavement (on grass). Anyone have this happen before. There was no warning and the cart did not gradually slow down.
Thanks for any help. |

Re: 86 Club Car suddenly started running Slow
OK everyone..I think its time to make a "stickies" on how to test battery pack, individual battery voltages and also how to test voltage drop under a load...I would work on it but dont know how to get it to become a sticky and not just get lost in a thread...ANYONE???

Re: 86 Club Car suddenly started running Slow
Mealer...charge your batteries until the charger shuts off and than wait about an hour. Get a voltmeter and take voltage readings as follows:
1st- take a total pack reading and give numbers right to the 1/100th (eg. 49.33) 2nd-take individual battery readings, no need to disconnect them, and get the individual battery readings right to the 1/100th 3rd-load test--with each individual battery...watch the meter as you accelerate from a dead stop while holding your foot on the brake so the wheels do move, but cart has to work harder to make the wheels turn. Watch how LOW the voltage drops down and get those numbers for each individual battery. 4th-Specific Gravity tester--this gives a reading on how good each individaul cell is in the batteries. Get a good one that shows numbers, not just color coded floaty balls. Check and get numbers of each cell using a "specific gravity" battery acid tester. post your results and we can go from there, or you will find your problem when one battery drops off considerably in relation to the rest of the batteries good luck, its not as hard or time consuming as it sounds |

OXFORDLAWN,
Thanks for the reply and even more for the info. My charger does not have a timer. I will estimate a full charge and proceed per your instructions. Have a Good day and Thanks again, John Quote:

1. Check the water levels for each Cell before charging, each cell should have water level 1/4" to 1/2" above battery cores. If water levels are low then fill to appropriate levels using DISTILLED water only ! |
