What controls charge amps on OBC type system
Just a question of curiosity. I have a fix/resale(2000 ds lever type f/r switch) cart with questionable batteries and I have been watching the charger to monitor and not overcharge or boil out the weak batteries. While I was watching,,the amps went to 0, but the charger was humming softly, then it went to 18A and huimmed louder for about 30 seconds....then dropped to 0...then back up to 8 and is hanging there now. So my question is I thought the OBC just grounded the relay to turn on the chargers power circuit...what controls the amount of Amps the charger is putting out and how can it be varied so quickly as I described above???

Re: What controls charge amps on OBC type system
OX I think it is by design that the charger hits it with Max amps then takes another reading and settles on where it thinks the best place is depending on the pack reading.
Mine also does this , I am guessing if I ran it down more, to say 48 Volts the charger would come back on at 18 Amps and stay there for it's start point. |

I agree with that...BUT..how do it know and do it control amperage amount I know its not that important, just something that I was ponderin'

Re: What controls charge amps on OBC type system
Sorry just saw this .... The obc does all the thinking for the charger. Including when to turn on/off and what amperage to supply.

Re: What controls charge amps on OBC type system
now here comes my point of debate and confusion...the OBC controls the power relay which turns on the 120V ac to the transformer by way of grounding the relay, which is given the positive siade from a tap off the positive charge receptacle wire. But HOW does it control the amount of amps that gets to the battery??? I just cant see or understand where that part happens Is the OBC inline with either the heavy positive or negative charge port receptacle wires and acts as a flow control????just had that idea

Re: What controls charge amps on OBC type system
Everything you ever wanted to know but was afraid to ask.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...2001+obc+works I think this is the same as all intelligent chargers. I have a charger for my 12 Volt stuff Truck, tractor mower ...etc. It does sorta the same thing when turned on except for the fact it may start at 15 Amp but in a matter of seconds the needle may be down to 7, and you can watch it fall. It is almost like if it has 8 amps charge on the batteries pushing back then it starts at 7 , if it has 1 amp in the Batteries it starts at 14 . Don't know how this works since I know there are way more than 8 or 15 amps on the Battery. |
