have a 2002 club car when you hook up the battery with the switch in the run position it sparks but in the tow position it is ok, there is no amp draw with key off so why does it spark?? thanks

I dont understand..you say it sparks with key on and ask why...but then say there is no amp draw with key off so why does it spark...that was kind of contradictory.
It will spark with the key on or off when in "RUN" mode as the capacitors in the controller are precharging up and getting ready to go. It should not spark in "tow" at all.
You should always put it in TOW mode when working around or on the batteries
Does this help

A little editing above to make it a little clearer.

Not sure why this happens with a cart with Run/Tow switches.
My sparky does not have the problem but it does not have a Run/Tow switch either.
However for my cart, it also always recommends to remove the Neg. Battery lead when making electrical changes.
