Club Car 36v to 48vW

I would like to change a 36v Club Car to 48v, need as much info on this as possible. Reason: Need more speed and climbing ability w/2 passengers.

I also am interested in doing this. I am in the process of adding a Alltrax 4845 controller and new solenoid to my cart. I wouldn't mind adding two 6v's and putting them in the bagwell. I don't want to have to buy a new charger if I don't have to. I read that if you add two six volt batteries, you could charge the system with the original 36volt charger and a standard 12volt car charger. Is this correct? If so, do you have to unhook the added 6v's and charge them separately?

I have done a couple they turn out good... the motor responds well to the extra voltage.

absolutely,
charge the first 6 with you cart charger , then the 2 in Bagwell with your car charger.

The added voltage and current may cause problems , with Solenoids or burn out the controller.
but like tgautreaux who already has his controller (he will have no controller issues).
The more solenoids you have the more you can burn out some of the older 36 Volt carts have 5, so stock up with new High Performance 48 Volt solenoids.

My experience is that the higher voltage will burn up the solenoids, V-glides, & F&Rs made for 36v. Only the motors seem to handle it... A complete conversion to solid state speed control is needed fopr safe and reliable service

I planned on upgrading my f/r switch and solenoid when I went to 48v. However, I didn't know that I'd have to change my vglide. Have people had problems with their vglides messing up at 48v?

Also, I thought I only had one solenoid?

They made 36v and 48v V-glides ... I have pics of some melted 36v models.

You are gonna need to go to a Curtis PB-6 most likely.... Google it!
