battery equalization question
I've looked thru all the threads regarding battery equalization, and have a question as to how the equalization is accomplished.
With 4 - 12 volt batteries is each battery charged individualy using a 14 volt charge, OR is the entire string charged using a 62 volt charge? And if the later, where in the world would a person get a charger that puts out 62 volts? THANKS, Dave |

Re: battery equalization question
Here's a 3 stage charger for around $300 that has a cycle voltage at 62.4v.
Delta Q also has a 6 stage charger at around $500. http://www.delta-q.com/products/quiq.shtml |

Why would you need a 62-volt battery charger to charge 4-12-volt batteries. Any 48-volt charger will do the job. If you have a battery that is out of balance from the rest of the pack. It is best to bring it back up to the same voltage as the rest of the batteries. And then charge them as a pack. Since you are using 12-volt batteries, you need to balance that one battery with a 12-volt battery charger. |

Re: battery equalization question
its really not a 62 Volt charger , its 48 volt charger ,
but output during max charge is 62 Volts. Next time you charge your 48 Volt cart , check across the pack while it is charging, not after it has been unplugged |

Re: battery equalization question
According to a guy at Trojan to do an "equalization" charge the 48 Volt string needs to be charged at 62 volts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am getting the impression that the equalization charge is charging the batteries at a higher voltage than normal, in a effort to boil off some of the sulpher and increase the capacity of the batteries. The Trojan instructions say to do hourly readings of the battery fluid and when it peaks, stop the charge. Correct me if I am wrong Have fun, Dave |
