A.D. - yeah the second parts diagram is more like what mine looks like.

I'll take some detailed pictures of the motor armature and also get the numbers off the motor and post them asap. It's entirely possible someone changed the motor in this cart since it was new....

Try scraping the end and see if dirty is covering the snap ring

Yours looks like the one I just did. I had to dig the little bumper out of the bottom of the coupling on the motor with an awl. Its a little star shaped rubber thingy. Part 22 in the second diagram.

My cart is a 48v '01 Carryall with a 3.1 HP Special Series motor in it.

Thanks for the post, 6.8! I looked it over again last night. I scraped, prodded, and poked at the motor coupling spines and there is definately no snap ring or alignment ring at the end of the splines.

I'll dig around at the bottom of the coupling and see if I find a separate part in that spot.

Since I don't have the snap ring setup on my motor, should I order the alignment ring in the second diagram A.D. posted earlier??

I'm going to try this one more time...

The Guide ring #1017895-01 is for 92-99 36 & 48V motors

The Bumper #1022352-01 is for 00-05 36 & 48V motors

If your motor was replaced, then I stand corrected...
but when I did mine, it was VERY hard to distingish the guide ring,
with a part in hand, It made it easier to figure out!

Good luck!

Lightninn-Late jumping in here so maybe you have the guide ring problem solved, if so please advise. I have replaced three of these since the Lockmann helped me through my first one a couple of years back. The end of the motor shaft looks exactly like all I have worked on. It's hard to see the lock ring in the picture due to rust & dirt. If there is no lock ring it is an off breed of some kind. Scrape the he-- out of the end of the spline grooves to make sure they are hard plastic, if so thats your guide ring, lock ring or not!! As others have said, buy the guide ring ahead and this will make better sense to you,. It only costs $3/4. If no lock ring chisel it out, clean housing & slip new one in with gasket cement. Line up groves with sharp punch/screwdriver. Let it set for 24 hrs prior to putting the motor back on.

If you already have it fixed give us a final report--snap ring Yes____No____.

My motor stock Club Car component. There is no lock ring setup on my motor. I called and talked to Joey at J&M Golf Carts which is a site sponsor. He informed me of the part number I needed for my particular motor setup. The part I needed was called a bumper instead of the alignment ring. The lock ring type motor setups use the alignment ring.

Here's the part I got from J&M.
