battery tray protection
OK Yesterday I spent about 3 hours with various anti corrosives and a wire brush on a drill cleaning the battery trays on my CC. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using one of those DIY bedliner kits to coat the trays and other aluminum in the battery area.

Re: battery tray protection
If it were my car, I'd remove the entire rear body and all parts to make it the bare frame. I'd acid wash the frame, get Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner, and apply it liberally to the entire rear frame area.
Preventative maintenance goes a long way. Once or twice a month, sprinkle baking soda all over the battery compartment and batteries to neutralize any acid. Rinse off gently with water. |

Re: battery tray protection
I beleive they also make a plastic tray that goes under your batteries...just a thought but bed liner is a better solution.

Re: battery tray protection
Does clubcar use aluminum for the battery trays to? Can battery acid eat through aluminum?

Re: battery tray protection
Yes and yes, but it takes a lot longer. Sulfuric acid takes out just about anything.

Re: battery tray protection
What type of acid wash do you use to clean the aluminum?

Re: battery tray protection
Simple baking soda and water will neutralize batery acid and corrosion. Best to scrape or pressure wash clean and then apply a baking soda solution or spray can acid neutralizer
There is a cleaner from Eagle One which is just for aluminum and it is available at most auto parts houses... It is an acid and called aluminum etching or something like that..... |

Re: battery tray protection
I have a 89 Carryall that I got from a little league and they would charge it in a small sealed storage shed and the offgassing from the batteries actually ate 2 large holes through the panel where the f/r switch is. So it's not only the battery acid that causes the corrosion, but also the offgases.Make sure you charge it in a well ventilated area don't overfill the batteries since that is really the only way liquid acid can leak out and settle in the battery trays.
