Default 99 DS not charging

I 've got a 99 DS 48volt that came to me with low batteries from sitting but don't know for how long.
Batteries are 07 trojans. I checked pack volts and had less than 10. Individual checks showed anywhere from .024 to 2.67.
I checked gravity in each and they all read lowest reading (water), I charged pairs with a 12v charger and then individually for a short time and got the pack up to 44 volts.
Plugged in the charger and got a relay in the charger clicking on and off every 10 seconds.
Jumped the grey wire behind the recepticle in the cart to pack ground and the charger stopped clicking and came on.
No reading from the meter on the charger but when plugged in the pack volts goes up from 44 to 49 volts so it is doing something.
After all this the question is, does this sound like it needs to charge more before I can take the jumper off or is there a problem with the charger or OBC?

No reading from the meter? Sounds like a problem with the charger. I can jump mine and the meter works.

How long can I leave the grey wire bypassed to charge?
After 4 hours charge and then sitting without charger for 30 minutes the pack volts have come up from 44 to 46.6.
Am I making any headway?
I just don't spend enough time working on electrics.

'07 Batteries? What a shame I have tried to save some low 6v batts but i have never had any luck with anything that read below 5.0 volts and never found a healthy battery reading less than 6 at anytime.... and If we are talking about 8v I will bet $10 a battery they do not return from the dead.(... from here, you tell me how much I owe or won) I just haven't had any luck....doing this?

Thanks scotty, As soon as I get to the shop I'll let you know if I need to send the money,
I left it on charge all night so we'll see where it's at.

If you have a load tester you can settle this right fast.... problem is you can spend a lot of time and Charging Costs and just get mediocre results.... then even when I thought I saved one or two> they failed shortly when put back into service... just seems the worst thing you can do to a battery is leave it drained down for extended times??? Good luck and be sure to let that pack settle for a good long while before sending us reading

The man said it sat for six months but it just seems without a draw of any kind they would have not been that low or they have been sitting way longer, or put up ran down.
who knows........

We deal with a lot of electrics and usually if somebody says it sat for 6 mos that means it sat for a year ...... if the batteries were new last year... that means they are 3 yrs old If the oil was changed last summer ... it was 2 summers ago Well? Just my experience
