Default cc 87 wiring confused and down

I just got my first cart it is a 1987 club car ds. i got it for $450 so i didnt expect to much. as for now thats where the good part ends. So far i have found out that it is somehow running on 24volt as 2 batteries are disconnected and 1 or 2 solenoids i still haven't sorted all that out yet. i know one is completely missing. on the positive it does run and i have driven it quite a bit, but its running at a top speed of 9 miles an hour. i guess my queston is does anyone have a better diagram of the wiring to the solenoids if possible with wire colors. i have all the diagrams from this site and they have helped a lot. and i'm not a total noob i have been a 12v installer for many years. even a picture of the setup would help me im dealing with some redneck engineering here parts could and are missing(and yes i can say redneck im 1/2 nedneck) i prefer hi-tech redneck. any and all help is greatly appreciated(or maybe a i've been there myself and it can be fixed)just to know im not the only one.

thanks for the reply i looked at the diagrams and my brain is starting to make sense of the way this works. the whole solenoid assembly on my cart has been completely fnarked up. i am running on 2 solenoids at this point and i picked up a third at a local cart shop(as that was all he had in stock) i would like to add this one in so that there is not such a jump upon pressing the throttle. i know i need to replace all of the but i have 4 boys to feed and a budget. this cart is the world to them and im trying to get to tax return time to make it as cool as me and the boys want it to be but in the mean time i would like to make it a little better. Also another stupid question the speed i have not is BLAH when i get all new batteries and solenoids what type of speeds should i get? thanks in advance

2 answers ,

1. You will have slightly more speed and torque with new batteries and a Sh%^&t more run time. One of the big things which will also add a slight amount of speed and torque is
to add new #4 cables , replace all #6 cables with #4's ( not just battery cables).

2. post a request for solenoids in the parts section http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/golf-carts-parts/ there are a lot of guys who upgrade carts from resistor to solid state controller, they have old solenoids which are no good to them (save a few $$)

When you get everything working right top speed will be about 14-15mph on level ground and much less uphill That is just the way they are without a lot of semi expensive upgrades But it is still fun for the kids and adults alike

hey scotty you seem to be the local expert on these older carts converting them to 48v is there a motor that will bolt up to this rear end that is 48v after some snooping around tonight im not sure the motor isnt bad or and least needs new brushes and a local shop wants to charge me 120 dollars to put new brushes in it would it be more cost effective to work towards a 48v swap

MOst of those motors will work like new on higher voltage but it is not a project for the budget minded.... You will need to buy batteries, charger, pb-6, controller and solenoid to complete a 48v conversion... Partial conversions are not recommended.
