Charger functioning properly?
Hello all,
Forgive my basic question. New to this forum and have never owned a cart before. Just picked up an electric '88 CCar (as determined by your sticky notes). It has batteries and charger about 1 year old. I am told it is an autoshutoff charger, not sure of its normal function. It starts normal 18-20V and drops to approx 10V after 4 or 5 hours but makes a fairly loud humming noise and did not shut off -- Is this normal?. Previous owner said it only took about 1 hour to charge (perhaps she didn't drive it very long?). How long should a 'normal' charge take? This looks like a very informative forum and I am looking forward to reading through more of the posts and educating myself about my new toy. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Charger functioning properly?
Welcome to BGW
If the batteries are fully depleted it can take up to 10 hours or so. (overnight) |

Re: Charger functioning properly?
I am only guessing, and am new here as well but my charger gauge has amps and not volts. To me this would make sense as it would pull more amps initially and drop off as it approaches full charge. Hopefully someone will confirm or deny this so I do not lead you astray

The Loud Humming Noise Comes From The Transformer As It Gets Older The Varnish Burns Off And It Gets Louder, does Not Hurt The Performance.

Thanks to everyone for the response. Good to know about the humming and it is not effecting performance. I'm sure I'll have more questions later. |

Re: Charger functioning properly?
#1 rule is when U get a sparky get a Digital Volt meter and learn how to use it.
Batteries are the life of the cart, and $600 dollars a set, so maintain them . |
