8 Volt battery charge ???
I have a single 8 volt battery that I need to charge. Can I use a 12volt charger and monitor the charge with a voltage meter. Obviously a 6 volt will not work......

Re: 8 Volt battery charge ???
I wouldn't let it go more than 30 minutes at a time. 30 on, 30 off, till it gets to 8.49v and holds it.
Also, no more than a 10 amp setting on the 12v charger, preferably 5 amp. |

by holding it , he means wait 30 minutes after charger is off to check Voltage. This gets rid of surface charge. |

You can use the 12 volt charger on a 8 volt battery. The charger will go into constant current limit mode. You want to remove the charge when you reach 9.8 volts for 100 % capacity (2.45 vpc). |

Re: 8 Volt battery charge ???
I prefer to stay on THIS side of the safety line. Overvolting a lead acid battery at high current is a recipe for explosion. I stand by my recommendation.

Where do you come up with 9.8 volts = 100% capacity? Trojan says their 8v battery is at 100% when it has 8.49 volts. Are they wrong? And what is C/10? And what about temperature monitoring? |

Re: 8 Volt battery charge ???
? is 9.89 Volts , the active charge it takes to get to 8.49 after unplugging and allowing surface charge to dissipate ????

Re: 8 Volt battery charge ???
Well that would depend upon a lot of factors... Most importantly would be battery temperature... you might spike to that level? I dunno? I do not like to take them above 9v and those at 9v will settle to 8.4 again depending upon age and health and how long at what amperage they were at 9v...... Charging 8v batts with a 12v charger is not something you plug in and walk away from..... it really has to be done at very low amperage to be safe.
