Default Higher HP motor for resistor controlled cart?

I have an 87 Club car I think it is DS. I installed a rear seat and the car has no power or speed. I have checked everything and really believe that the cart is under powered. I have a 2.9hp motor in there now and am thinking about putting in a GE 380 type. Is this a good idea? I only use the cart when we are in an RV camp but I need more speed and torque. I can't see spending a lot of money on a controller. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

Welcome to BGW

The problem with adding a high spped motor on the resistor carts is you run the risk of burning up the coils. Contact EMP Motors, tell them what you have and they can build a motor to work with what you have...either in a single speed or 2 speed flavor. Keep in mind you can't expect miracles. You cant expect to run 40MPH without spending some money on upgraded stuff. Your still limited because of the resistors. If you upgrade to an electronic speed controller options open up.
