Default Need advice...

Aight guys i have been reading on this site for quite sometime now. It is now time to look for a new controller/motor for my cart. Here is a brief rundown of what I have got. 2003 Club Car IQ w/ Regen. I use my cart to tow my 3300lb racecar back to the trailer from the end of the track. I have 23" tires on it. I am wanting to know what you guys recommend for the best motor/controller combo for my application. I want plenty of pulling power but wouldnt mind picking up about 5 mph if possible. My cart is stock other than 4 guage wires and brand new trojans. Oh yeah, its 48V too. Any websites that offer some kick *** deals would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.

Go to Sponsors page & Browse for Motor up-grades/controller combos. When you find one call and visit with your ideas. Several will stear you in the right direction. Also ask about sending your motor in for up-grade. We try to support the sponsors and some extend discounts to BGW members. You may end up kicking out the Regen, but no biggie there as you will pick up better low-end and more speed.

I appreciate the input, but speaking from past experiences, alot of companies will tell you what they think you want to hear(Not saying that any of the sponsors would do that). I find it more useful to hear from customers running the product than from the ones selling it. Just thought that someone here would have a combo that they are running that is close to what Im needing. I have a guy locally that sells the parts and will give me a killer deal. He has recommended the alltrax 400 controller with a GE 5hp motor. I dont know much about the GE motor so I was just wondering if anyone else uses them or if I should go another route entirely. Thanks for the input.

Your local guy is on the right track but I would go for a bigger controller. The controller is the gate valve To all the amps stored in your batteries. I would want 5-650 amp controller for the towing job you are talking about. And motor wise? Motors fall into 2 categories, wound for torque or speed. I would look at a motor which was wound for torque, even with the torque motor the increase in amp access will allow you to pick up a couple of mph.

What does your local guy say about improved performance, still having the regen and the difference between a 400 & a 500 controller? Call anyone of our sponsors selling these and ask the questions, I'll bet you get help even if you still end up dealing with your local guy. The reason I suggest our sponsors is that I have purchased from them, asked advice and never had a problem with warranty. I messed up the installation of a controller, called in and was told "just send it back to my attention and I will put a new one on Fed Ex today." No charge!! I don't know about your sweetheart deals but I have a few from the past in my "junk parts box". Good luck & Merry Christmas

Here is a little chart for GE motors and Controller Size comparison

Only the biggest motors benefit from the biggest controllers.
