Default 2001 Club Car Moror/Controller Upgrade Questions

I have a 2001 Club Car that is Lifted with 22" tires. I primarily use the cart for hunting and mild off road activities, but occasionally use it around my neighborhood. I am interested in upgrading the motor and controller to get more torque and maybe speed if possible. I currently have a Alltrax DCX 300 controller that I had to turn the turbo off on because it was getting the motor too hot.

I am new to the forum and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you added a complete set of 4 gauge cables?

Where ever you bought your controller - they should have suggested the cables as a MUST with the upgrade. I don't see how a 300 amp controller can overheat your motor? There's got to be some resistance somewhere - I'd start with the cables ASAP...

Thanks for the welcome.

As for the overheating situation...I drove the golf cart all over my hunting lease for an afternoon. 95% of that time I had the pedal to the floor and I kept noticing this hot smell. I stopped and pulled the cover off of the back of the cart and noticed that the controller was warm, but then I laid my hand on the motor and it burned my fingers. I also touched the cables coming into the motor and noticed that they were very hot.

Any help?

Sounds like motor bad or going bad, might just be brushes.

Could the motor going bad cause the cart to constantly fluctuate speed at full throttle? To explain more...the cart sort of shutters up and down in speed. I have turned the throttle up and throttle down rates all the way down to 3 thinking that maybe the mcor was causing this, but at full throttle the computer does not show a fluctuation of throttle rate (always 100%).

Sounds like bad brushes. This is how a DC motor acts like when brushes going bad, and not staying in constant contact. can be replaced.

Replace all #6 welding cables, battery, F/R, Motor ALL with High quality #4 Guage Welding.
Several of the site sponsers above sell complete kits.
Try this first , it should have been done when the Controller was upgraded.
