Default Speed problem with 1998 CC and battery ?

I am new to this forum and I am learning a lot but I am concerned about my 98 club car. It is the slowest cart on the golf course. I bought it in 07 and was told the batteries were new. They are Trojans 105. One terminal says G5 and the other terminal say F 06. Not sure what those mean. I have read in this forum that only IQ models can be adjusted for speed, but have been told it could be a solenoid problem. I would like to do any work my self if possible. Thanks.

If its a 36volt resistor car they are slow to begin with about 12 mph. or so.

Yes it is a 36 volt, with the resistors behind the battery bank. Any truth to the rumor it could be a solenoid?

RIB33024, Thanks for the information,but...on each battery the negative terminal says G5 and the positive terminal say F 06. On two of the batteries I can't really make out the F on the positive terminals but I can definitely see the 06.

All batteries are about 5 yrs old and at the end of their usefull life. No truth to the solenoid remark

New Batteries may help, But don't expect miracle's , this stock 36 Volt cart , will max out at 10-12 MPH.

Check the Voltage on each battery and the SG on all the batteries 1 hour a full charge.

As you are new to carting it ( may not be the time to switch over to 48 volts and modern controls ), but if you have the funds to switch over and have the know how ( basic mechanics and electrical knowledge ) now that your batterys may be on the way out it would be a good time because one part is ( either ) switching to 8 volt batterys or later adding two 6 volters that will not be balanced with your replaced batterys later on? Read some of the threads about conversion and ask for help from experts like SCOTTYB if you are interested?
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT?

Old Mec and gmorison, Thank you for your replies. I am waiting for my batteries to recharge as we speak. I am borrowing a voltage meter and I found a cheap battery cell tester (like the antifreeze tester) to check the condition of my batteries. I talked to a friend about my slow cart and he replaced his motor with a rebuilt one. I called the number he gave me and they told me to send my motor to them and they could redo and replace things and the cart would go from 16 to 19 MPH. The company that I spoke with is located in Indiana. And I was considering going to the 48 volts. this is a great forum. Thanks guys. Let me know what you think about replacing the motor.

I would doubt that your motor is bad, and even if it was REMEMBER THAT ITS THE BEST FOR 48 volt conversion. it handles 48 volts and lots of the fellows have used them for years with no problems. One less cost that is not needed in most cases? Before doing anything other than battery checking I would do some research.
ASK FOR ADVISE BEFORE DOING ANY CHANGES.
NOTE THE ANTIFREEZE TESTER WITH MULTY FLOATS IS REALLY USELESS, take the time to get a single float ( HYDROMETER WITH TEMP ON SIDE TO GET CORRECT READINGS ) you will need one if you continue with battery carts. Give us a POST RESULTS on each cell with good unit ( SEE ABOVE ) so we can help you with battery condition.
