Controller Amperage Question
Could someone explain the Amperage increase in controllers please

Controllers are like a gate valve between the battery pack and the motor. Controller size is called out by amps. the larger the amperage the more amps can flow thru it at any time. So when you press the gas to WOT the controller is the limiting factor in how well the motor can respond..... a large controller cannot push the motor but..... a small controller can limit the motor.....

THink of the amps your motor draws to run as water and the batteries are the water tank ........ ....... the controller is the faucet, Your cables are the hose..... any restriction will reduce performance to the point that that motor can draw no more..... THe motor can only draw / use so much based on it's design capabilities .......

DC motor RPM is determined by VOLTAGE only, assuming no system losses, etc.

Are you saying that reguardless of available amperage voltage determines motor rpm? I think not. Other variables like LOAD and available amperage play a big part in determining if said motor can actually reach potential rpm

OKay but when have you ever encountered a 'no losses' situation in golf carts Anytime there is a wheel on the ground with a motor turning it to push a cart..... well, there are losses.

I agree with both of you, if voltage is the water in the hose, and rpms are determined by the voltage available, well then it only makes sense that the rpms of a motor are directly proportional to how fast the voltage arrives at the motor, ie amperage is the water pressure, therefore the more ampacity that your controller can deliver to the motor the faster the voltage will arrive there and the faster the motor will reach maximum potential rpm. Basic electrical theory says that a joule (measurement of electrical power) is equal to one coulomb passing a single point in a single second therefore the faster the coulomb reaches that point ( amperage) the more power. Man I thought my theory teacher was full of crap when he said this stuff would be usefull someday lol.
