Default Trade-in Question

Hi, I have been lurking for awhile on this site but never posted. I got a 1990 Club Car for Christmas from my wife. Total surprise! She knew I wanted one so she paid $1500 for a 1990 36V Club Car DS. It is pretty nice for what it is. It has the rear seat and extended top. However it is SLOW and the batteries are from Nov 2005(Trojan T-105).
I am fixing to drop some cash into it with a lift and some tires, krylon paint job and some family friendly accesories for riding at Garden City this summer.
A local dealer offered a trade for a 2002 club car 48V, rear seat and headlights for mine and cash. His has what appears to be the original 2002 Trojan batteries but it is already 48V.
My question is, even with a little cash, would it be simpler to trade and start with a 48V cart as opposed to converting my 36V. Both will need batteries. I am looking to get good range riding the family around while on vacation and would eventually like to run 25 mph with a 23" tall tire.
Any thoughts?

You can change over to 48 volt a 36volt resistor car is not good for a lift or a backseat. they are just slow cars,Personally I would rather have the 48volt car. The 48 volt car is also 12 yrs. newer and you can do a little more with it.

Smile Re: Trade-in Question

Thanks for the quick reply! If I traded mine in, what would be a good price difference to pay? Mine looks way nicer cosmetically than his 48V one and I don't really want to pay much CASH because it will take away from the amount that I have for upgrades.
The dealer has not seen mine in person but mentioned that he would put the extended top on the 2002 48V cart for between $500-$100 cash difference for my cart.
As far as the desired performance that I'm looking for, I have read countless threads on here about 36-48V conversions and it is slightly intimidating although that is my current plan. However, if I traded for the 2002 48V cart, i know that I would need to replace all 6 original batteries. If i wanted approx. 25 mph on mostly flat ground with 23" tires what would I need and would it be more cost effective than the 36-48V conversion? I'm guessing new batteries, 4ga wires, controller?
I just wonder if the price difference between the two carts could be offset by putting that money into the 36-48V conversion.
Thanks.

I dont want to say what your car is woth without seeing it. Maybe you could just do a few things to it use it a little, and then maybe you will find something newer and nicer.I would try to move up as new as I can with the amount I can afford.Take your time and dont be in a hurry.

I understand where you are at in making a decision. I am not doubting the dealer or your ability to to judge someone and there may be a simple answer to this that I just don't see as I am new to all of this as well.

My question is why would a dealer want your cart so bad and want to trade a cart 12 years newer and a more sought after (I would think) 48v cart for yours plus cash to boot ? I understand the battery issues, but really chances are he isn't coming out much ahead with your 5yr old batts either. Are the batts in the 48v good enough to test it out ?

Like I said, I am not trying to be negative and maybe there is just something I am missing here ?

No problem, I do ramble when I type so I can be confusing sometimes.

I just want to make sure that I seek out all my options before I start ordering parts for my 1990 CC 36V and regret it later. Also, if the 2002 48V cart can get me there easier that would be a plus.

As far as the 2002 model goes, are there certain features that year that I need to be aware of. I have reserched my cart but know little about the 2002 cc ds. Like what the heck is the IQ and non-IQ. Which is better for my specific performance goals?

Would it be easier and more cost efficient to just convert my 36V to 48V and be happy?

Thanks!

The IQ car has a rocker switch for forward and reverse and a little port under the switch,The DS car has a lever F&R switch. Iprefer the IQ car because they are a little faster without any upgrades and you can troubleshoot them easier.Thats just my opinion though.

Well, the one at the dealer has the same toggle "handle" for F/R as my 1990 cc has. So I assume it is non-IQ.

Thanks for your input.

While you are researching pros and cons of each year cart, look up the price of the major electrical items that may go wrong. That's why I like my OLD SLOW 1983 DS. Very basic easy and less expensive to work on. Just my 2 cents.
