Battery Care

Ok have a weird problem with some Batteries. Friend of a friend had a golf cart and didn`t want the batteries to freeze over winter. So he takes each battery and dumps all the electrolite out of each one. "Well by golly they won`t freeze!"

Anyway, what would you put back in to fill them back up? Plain water(distilled of course) or new electrolite. I didn`t have an answer for it. I`ve heard of so called "reconditioned" batteries being dumped, flushed and refilled with fresh electrolite, but this is a new one. Any thoughts besides "batteries are trash" now. Who knows they might be.

They have to be refilled with electrolyte.
Water is what boils off when the batteries are charged and it is replaced with distilled.
Just out of curiosity where did he dump the acid?

Your friend may be learning an expensive lesson? Tell him (for next year) That fully charged batteries do not freeze.... but dry cells die

Don`t know where he dumped the acid...I figured it had to be refilled with electrolyte, but wanted to check and share this tidbit. He was an older fellow that was thinking WAY too old school. I told them that charged batteries don`t freeze...I think he had some that did, but probably were old ones that wouldn`t hold a proper charge. We`ll see what happens when he refills them in the spring. That was something new to me too. Never heard of emptying to keep from freezing or where he got the idea, But you never know what hes growing back in the woods!!

Thats kinda funny The first fleet of cars I bought all had dry batteries from being in storage and on charge for months on end.We decide to refill them with acid and some of them lived and some didnt,just a learning lesson when you first start. I know better now from that experience.
