Charger wont charge fully
What is the critical voltage the charger/OBC look for to begin a charge.
My pack voltage is 48.0 volts Individual Battery Voltages are 1. 8.01v SG 1.1 2. 7.99v SG 1.1 3. 8.00v SG 1.1 4. 7.97v SG 1.1 5 8.01v SG 1.1 6. 8.02v SG 1.1 What im trying to find out is if i try and bring the individual batteries back up to a voltage across the board (individually) with a 12v trickle charge auto charger. What would i need to bring them back up to to get the power drive charger to take over. I know they are below 50% of charge on average so what does the OBC/charger look for? Thanks |

Re: Charger wont charge fully
I think that charger is looking for about 40v for recognition... So if you have 48v and the charger is not coming on? You have another problem, not low voltage.

Re: Charger wont charge fully
So it could be the charger? or maybe the OBC?
This all stemmed from when my son came home on it and said it was going real slow. After investigation i found through nearly burning my fingers that the drivers side brake drum had basically seized solid, (my fault i didnt obviously set it correctly). Could that have drained the batteries too much or is it possibly an OBC or charger problem? Thanks |

I can hear the charger click in (internal relay), when i plug it into the cart after about 20 secs or so, but the ammeter doesnt move (stays on zero)

Re: Charger wont charge fully
I believe it's around 70% of pack voltage so that would put it at 33.6 volts to turn on the charger. As Scotty said it's got to be something else. Try to bypass the OBC and see what happens.
The negative (-) line/wire coming from the back of your cart charger receptacle needs to have spliced to it a wire from your final negative post of your battery pack. Once bypassed if your charger comes on then it's your OBC, if not then it's your charger, (maybe!) |

Re: Charger wont charge fully
Yep If the charger comes on we can go with a reset attempt on the OBC ..... Check the fuse you pull out of the yellow holder.... If it is blown the charger will not come on.... The fact that you hear the relay click in the charger tells me it is recognizing the pack....

Re: Charger wont charge fully
Before you buy that ammeter you can put a voltmeter on the battery pack and see the voltage rising while charging, should go up past 60 volts, (on a 48 volt pack,) near the end to equalize the pack before shutting down.
