I made two tools to assist in this job. I took a cheap screw driver and bent the end under heat from a torch to make a hook to remove and install the lower spring. For the washer rod assembly that holds the shoe to the backing plate, I made a tool that allows you to push on the concave washer and twist the little rod that goes through it at the same time. You just hold the rod in position with your finger on the backing plate. See picture. Both of these tools subtract about 10 minutes from the job.

I compared your write up to my 2005 repair manual and would take your write up any day over the manual. I tucked a copy in the manual. The tips are great. You can't get that kind of information from an exploded diagram. As far as length, I would say instructions can never be to simplifed. I think most of us have never done this stuff before and the simpler and more detailed the better. We really appreciate all the help you guys give us.
