07 EZGO battery problem
I posted this yesterday, but it seems to have dissapeared. So here we go again. I just bought a 2nd hand 07 EZGO PDS. Fully decked out...with 6" Jakes long travel lift...22" duro off road tires...rear seat...brush guard...10" aluminum rims...chrome steering column & wheel. A very nice ride, and garage kept since new for $2500. It is mint condition, and I thought the price was right too. However, I brought it home charged it and took it for a spin. In less than a mile...with one small hill...the cart lost 1/2 of its charge and power. I have checked the water levels (good) and put multimeter on the batteries (each reads 6 & total reads 36). I find it hard to believe that 2 year old Trojan batteries are bad. The previous owner said the cart had only been driven approximately 10 miles since new. I know nothing about a battery powered cart...(have had a gas...never again). What could my problem be? Thanks for any help!!!

Re: 07 EZGO battery problem
36 volts on a 36 volt pack is only 50% charged. You want each battery to read 6.37 volts or the entire pack to read 38.2 volts for a full charge. If the batteries were not properly maintained or left in a state of discharge for a long period of time they could easily be bad. Charge them completely and then wait 30 minutes to let the surface charge disapate, then chaeck your voltages. It is also possible that the charger is not doing it's job. Have your charger checked also.

Re: 07 EZGO battery problem
I'm not using a digital multimeter either...so my reading could be a lil +/-. Got a digital one coming this afternoon from a buddy, and I'll take another reading then. This cart is emmaculate, just real surprised as well as it seems to have been taken care of that he would of let the batteries waste away. Buddy of mine has a 36 volt cart as well...might swap batteries out and see if that fixes the problem as well.

I agree...It is sad that some people do not understand the proper way to care for their batteries. Batteries are your fuel tank in an electric cart and are not cheap. Proper break-in and maintenance is a must if you want to get a long service life from them. Always keep your batteries fully charged and never discharge them below 50% for maximum life span. |

Re: 07 EZGO battery problem
OK...first off let me start by saying sorry for putting this in the Club Car thread instead of the EZGO. Ok...Just charged the cart...waited probably an hour and checked voltages. 6.3 - 6.4 Volts on all batteries but 1 that read 6.1 volts. Pack Voltage was 38.0 Volts Now what?

Re: 07 EZGO battery problem
The battery reading 6.1 is only 60% charged. Concentrate on that one.

Re: 07 EZGO battery problem
I checked the voltages again this morning (about 9 hours after charging). The 5 that were reading 6.4 last night are down to 6.14 this morning and the other was down to 5.9. Pack was at 37.2. I'm guessing this means my batteries are shot. Seems to be on point with what they were doing when I drove the cart the other day as well...start out with plenty of power, and it falls off the charts quick. If I have to replace them are the Interstates a decent choice? My uncle is an Interstate dealer, and I probably could get them at his cost. Otherwise I'm probably stuck buying the Sam's Club brand. I couldn't find any Trojan dealers within 75 miles of me (google search). I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy them this week if that seems to be the general consensus.
