Anybody Put a Winch On?
Are these just 12v and you wire them into the battery bank via a voltage reducer, like other 12v accesories? (for 48v CC with 6 8's)
Thanks |

Re: Anybody Put a Winch On?
I dont know of any voltage reducer that can handle the load of a winch under load? If you hook up to 2-8 volt batterys you are sure to shorten the life of motor, but this is only solution unless you do like most and add a 12 volt battery for accessory usage.

Re: Anybody Put a Winch On?
I have one on my 36v cart so not the same. If I were you I would by one from harbor freight... get the two year replacement (they tell me unconditional) and run her off of 16v. If it doesn't last that long, you will have a new one. The cashier explained that the two year covers against abuse, wear and tear, etc... Not trying to be dishonest, just an easy solution.

Yes I didnt think about the aux 12v battery, I could do that. I just would rather loop it in if possible.

Re: Anybody Put a Winch On?
Not positive but could build a voltage reducer with 5 9ohm resisters, with a high enough amp rating to handle the load. Wire switch befor resistors so they don't draw batteries down when not used.

Re: Anybody Put a Winch On?
ya the amp load might be too much for an ordinary voltage reducer, a 2000lbs winch can pull 150 amps under full load!

Re: Anybody Put a Winch On?
Yes... it is possible... You'll need 2 voltage reducers though. You can pick them up at your dealer. The part number is 101810801. The retail cost is $81.60 each. They may give you a little bit of a deal though. Anyways, hook them both up the exact same way. Hook them both to the same battery post and hook them both to the same ground block. It doubles up the current that's distributed to the ground block. This is how the factory installs them right down the street at Club Car Inc.
