Burning Smell from 1990 DS
Over the past two weeks I've been getting an intermittent burning smell coming from 1990 CC DS. No evidence or burn or melted wires. All battery connections tight, no evidence anyway of any electrical damage. As mentioned, the smell is intermittent. I took it around the neighborhood three times all full speed exercising the dog...no smell. Wife pulled it up the driveway into garage...burning smell.
Any suggestions on what to look for here? There is nothing obvious to the eye, so I'm hoping some of the veteren owners and experts could help me diagnose this. Thanks in advance, JG |

Re: Burning Smell from 1990 DS
Run it till you smell something, then start grabbing wires, or looking for smoke. Where ever that is, generally is where the problem is

Re: Burning Smell from 1990 DS
Thanks for the reply. That is what I've done up until this point, but found nothing. As soon as I smell it, the seat is up and i'm in there with a 1,000,000candlepower flashlight looking for any signs (smoke, heat, melting, etc.) but can't find a source for the smell.

Might be the F&R switch is heating up. Check all the cables going to it for heat....

By F&R switch, are you referring to the Forward/Reverse switch? Just want to be sure.
Thanks for the reply. JG |

Jose, make sure you TOUCH the wires and connections, not just LOOK for heat damage. The smell indicates excess heat, and your HAND will find it. Check the motor too. And, check the rear wheel hubs.

I am pretty sure its a resistor car and they are notorious for burning the wiper switch arm and the contact.

Hi Everyone, thanks for all of the great feedback. I can always count on BGW to get some great insights. I'll check the F/R switch next time there is an issue and will report back my findings.
Again.....many thanks. JG |
