Default 89 CC has little power and slow

Hey Guys...Long time...Need some help again...I bought my daughter a 1989 electric CC....It ran slow and has little power on take off....3 new batteries...The other three (trogens) are good...I did three checks on all batteries...Voltage check...all are 6.40 Plus after charging and sitting for 12 hours...Gravity check on all show very good....also bought a load tester...All six batteries are good with a load.....so all are charging and holding a good charge...Its about half as fast as my 84 CC but has little or no take off power....It has what I think is called a V-pack...When I jack up the cart and slowly push on the peddle it seems to go faster over each speed...Looking at the wiring digram from the forum it seems to be wired right...However, there is a jumper coming from inside the V-pack going back inside the V-pack...not sure what that is yet......All battery are clean and cables are replaced or in good shape....

Any suggestions on where I should start...I dont know much about the V-pack yet...Any voltage or ohms I should check....

Thanks guys.
Bill

After she cools ...... Check for a broken coil? Remove the cover from the V-glide and inspect the stationary lugs for burn or pit marks? That's a start..... & check brakes for dragging?

OK ScottyB...you were right again....Pulled the cover off the V-glide...it is trashed...Looks like it has been burnt...the little brass brushes are all uneven because of the melting....there was a jumper from terminal 2 to 3 ...not sure what that was about...hummm...anyway....there was no cleaning to be done...just too bad shape...

My question....Do you or any of my fellow buggies gone wild...have one...I need the complet assembly...ready to bolt on....

Thanks for you help again

ScottyB,

I have a 1998 CC 36V. I just put in six new batteries and reworked the wiring according to the listed battery order (ordered new 4 Guage cables and waiting for them). I have the same problem. Seems the CC cannot get over 10 mph. Is there something I should be checking? I bought the CC from a buddy (he went to Iraq) and it has been sitting for 5 months. The batteries were dying when he left. I just got it and replaced the batteries since the old ones would not recharge. Seems when I drive through the grass, it comes close to a complete stop. If I stop the CC, hang it up... I will have to push it with foot on the pedal to get it moving again. Any suggestions?

Welcome to bgw...... First & most importantly make darn sure you are not abusing the batteries by running them down too low.... New batteries need special care to 'break in' properly or they may never achieve full power ..... so get a digital voltmeter if you don't have one and post the pack voltage here.... Maybe you do not have all of the batteries connected in series correctly? It sounds like a serious lack of voltage? Do you have a diagram of how the batteries are to be cabled? And what are you using for cables while you wait for the good ones to be delivered? That should give you a start....

NEW BATTERIES?

Thanks ScottyB... I am on the road a lot so sorry for the delay in response. I just bought new batteries (no not Troj, but Energizers from Sams, different story, and need a beer for that one). I was utilizing the 10 Guage cables. I now got the 4 Guage on and it is more responsive (no torque though). It is a little faster and does continue to go through grass (St Augustine in Tampa). If I stop, I feel like Fred Flintstone to get it going again. I checked the wiring diagram online (here at BGW) and put it in sequence. So it does okay. I will check the voltage this weekend and update... Again, thanks for the help. This Forum ROCKS
