Replace reg 30w with Synthetic in differential
Anyone have any issues with their seals not sealing properly after they made this change?
Notice any difference in noise, speed or was this just a feel good thing knowing the properties are much better with Synthetic? Thanks in advance for your feedback |

Re: Replace reg 30w with Synthetic in differential
Been with the synthetic since Sept '09 and haven't had any leaks yet. Did pickup a little in the speed dept .5-1mph gpsd. The previous owner though might have not ever have changed the oil IDK so that could have had something to do with the speed bumpup. Are your seals leaking?

Re: Replace reg 30w with Synthetic in differential
My only real concern was because of a problem I had with the synthetic grease used on my Double Kendon trailer from the previous owner... a red grease that I could not stop from leaking out all over the wheels when traveling. I kept cleaning and they kept leaking out... I removed the bearings on both sides and repacked them with typical marine grease... no more problems. It's not the same as motor oil but it was synthetic... the previous owner was told the same thing about no problem... hence my concern when there was. After doing more searching on the Internet today it seems to be more Myths then Fact about the difference between the two types. Here is a link to help anyone else out with their concerns, at least about oils... from Valvoline titled Motor Oil Myths:
