Default Another question about installing a converter

Well, I have been searching like crazy to find the info I need and have gotten impatient..

I'm in the process of completely rewiring my cart (upgrade included) and wanted to know if the cables from the battery pack to the converter needed to be 4AWG as well?

Thanks for the help.

If you are talking about actual battery cables going to your controller then yes. If you are talking about wiring going from your batteries to your converter, (48v-12v or 36v-12v,) then no.

Hey scubabud, from bat pack to converter (48v to 12V). What gauge wire do you recommend?

Take a look at the existing INPUT wires on the converter, then use THAT guage and you will be safe

My converter has no wires. Just the 4 spades (big spades) to connect the 48v +- & the other 2 for the 12v.

It depends on what your output will be from your converter. My current one is a 20a continuous and I used 12g wire. I am thinking about buying a 30a converter and I will change out my wires to 10g when/if I make that change.

Yeah, I'm just going to use 12 AWG. Don't think I will ever load the thing to heavy. Wife want's a radio (no amp, just 2 speakers), headlights/tail lights, maybe blinkers and brake lights some day. My controller is a 25amp output.

I'd still use 10g from the get go even if you don't feel you'll be using that much of a load. You might be using an inverter as well if you want to run AC lights during a holiday season and that will come with night time driving, radio blasting... Hardly any wires to run now and they'll be there in case you need to update something else down the road.

You got a point. Since I'm in there now, might as well put the heavy stuff on. I only need to run the 10awg to the converter input (48v), right?

Thinking all the wires heading to the different components can be 12awg or 14awg.
