PowerDrive Charger
I recently purchased a 2001 CC DS powerdrive 48 volt. How long should the charger run? Does it shut off automatically like my IQ? If it does not shut off what are some of the causes. I put it on last night around 8pm and this morning it was still going at 6am.

Re: PowerDrive Charger
Yes it should shut down after fully charging the batts. Could run as long as 12+ hours depending on battery voltage status. Is there anything that looks out of place in the wireing? Like say any jumper wires around the f/r switch or around the OBC?

Re: PowerDrive Charger
I didn't notice the number but it was well over half way still after 12 hours.

Re: PowerDrive Charger
Have you done a check on the individual status of each battery? In the stickies you can find help with translating voltage readings as well as SG readings.

Re: PowerDrive Charger
Those batteries are really run down and they are hot now from so much charging.I would take the charger off and let them sit overnite and the next day they will finish chaging pretty quick.I have done 2-this week already.

Re: PowerDrive Charger
OK The charger was put back on around 6 or 7 last night and soon went down to around 4 or 5 amps on the meter. As of 8 am it is still running at a low amperage charge. Any ideas? Is this normal? I can't check batteries until I get home.

Re: PowerDrive Charger
Beginning to sound like bad battery / batteries..... remember to let them settle for about 12hours to get true readings of voltage and SG (hydrometer) compare your individual battery and cell readings to the chart below:

Re: PowerDrive Charger
I am getting around 50.4v after an 8 hour rest off charge and a quick 200 yard ride. I will verify again after another charge, rest and no ride.
I did find that someone had the charger positive going to battery #2 instead of #1 which gives enough reading at the receptacle to kick on the charger but never would read a full charge at the receptacle. Is this the possible reason the charger wasn't shutting off and did this hurt anything? I am still looking at a motor and or controller/motor upgrade for this 01 CC DS 48v Series. I have a fast cart already so I'm thinking torque and a little speed 20+mph. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help! |

Re: PowerDrive Charger
The charger did finally shut itself off. It must have had something to do with the charger wire being on the wrong battery.
