Default Thinking Of Buying 1997 Club Car

I have a friend who has a 1997 Club Car that she would like to sell. It has not been used in six or seven years and has been stored outside. The battery charger has also been left outside so I know it will need to be replaced. I was considering buying a newer cart from a dealer but would consider this cart because of the price and my desire to build a cart. My questions are what would be a fair price for the cart if the body and frame are in good shape? Also what things should I look for when I go to look at it? Any advice is greatly appreciated. By the way, this would be my first golf cart project ever.

Welcome !!!

Can't say what a good price would be for it, but you will want to know if it is a 36v or 48v, check the battery tray area, even though its a CC batteries can still ruin the trays. Look at the suspension, and check the wiring. If it needs to be stripped down completely then you could do some upgrades. Just some things to consider. Has your friend thrown you a price yet?

Well you will be looking at approx 300-400 for new charger, unless you can find a good used one for less, and batteries will set you back approx 400-600 depends on what they are selling for in your area. Just a couple of things to consider, but you if you strip it down and rebuild it, you will know how it all works.

I think two issues come in to play. Do you want a cart that you can jump on and not have to fix up or do you enjoy projects like fixing up a golf cart? The other issue is money. You will probably not save a load of money on the fixer cart but can break up the purchase over time while fixing it and will learn a lot about the cart you own. I think Mark is right. Used charger at 250 and batteries at 600. Wiring, misc. other surprises would bring you up to $1500+ once you get it done.

For me it would be a 100 bucks top. It is 13 years old and you are looking at a lot of money to be spent. Why dont you just wait and get something newer and be ahead of the game.

It is my experience that older carts that need batteries are rarely worth over $200. I recently purchased a 98 CC and an 01 CC both with batteries and chargers for $900 total. Yes, I know this was an exceptional deal, but they are out there. I purchased the 98 with the understanding it had bad batteries. The core value alone on the batteries is $50-$60 dollars, so it is always good if it has batteries even if they are bad. I agree with the previous post, I think your friend is about $400 over priced.
