Why didn't my cart get faster with larger tires?
1995 48 Volt Club Car. New 2 gauge wiring. New Trojan 875 batteries. Added lift and 25 inch tires. should have gone from stock 14mph to new speed with taller tires 18+ mph. Now it goes 13mph. I want my gain in speed from taller tires.
Any idea why it isn't going faster? Physics says it should. Also. I upgraded controller from 225 stock to 400 amp and plan to swap the 48 volt motor with a 36 volt motor tomorrow but I want to figure out why I didn't get any speed with new tires. Could there be some throttle issue? Is this cart limiting its top speed? Please help! |

I'm obviously throwing out a question, but is your controller programmable? Is its programmed setting for a lower speed by chance?
BTW... good looking cart! |

The formula only holds true if you have the horsepower and torque to offset the losses from the larger diameter tires. 25's are HUGE for a cart. They are heavy!

No. My stock controller is a Curtis non-programmable from 1995. I got another one just like it rebuild to 400 amp but it exactly like the original in all other aspects.

Model #5BC59JBS6194B 3.1HP, 2800RPM, 48V Part #101785701 So does this say that the formula cannot hold true due to lack of horsepower since I have already upgraded to a 400 amp controller? |

Your 400 amp controller does not create horsepower, it simply allows the motor to draw 400 amps from the pack IF THE MOTOR DEMANDS IT. You have opened up the pipe, but the nozzle hasn't changed yet.

Here is the 36 volt motor I have:
Club Car Model # 1012190 I cannot find any info on it yet. Would this possibly be the "nozzle" you say I'm lacking? |

If that 36v motor will bolt up to your diff you will be much happier in the torque AND top speed. The 36v motor will handle 48v JUST FINE.

Re: Why didn't my cart get faster with larger tires?
Yes. That is what I was planning but I was hoping for:
added speed for larger tires (stock speed 14) = 18mph New trojan batteries +1 mph = 19 mph New controller to enhance torque 0 mph = 19mph pull the stock 48v motor and replace with 36v motor = 4mph = 23 mph!!! I'm still at 14 without motor. Ughhh!! Also have access to a bandit Plum Quick 48 volt but the 36 volt was free. |

Re: Why didn't my cart get faster with larger tires?
OK. Got the first good charge on the new batteries and tried it out this morning. I have a top speed of 15mph. I plan to cycle the new batteries as described in a post on how to properly break in batteries.
15mph and still to put in the 36 volt motor. How do I check the throttle to make sure I and getting full throttle at this point? |
